Missouri State University's Theatre and Dance Department offers what is known as, the dance composition series. The first course in this series is Improvisation and Solo choreography; the second course is Small Group Choreography, and the third and final course is Choreography and Production. These classes are aimed at teaching the students different choreographic techniques and processes. Every course in this series includes a final piece that the student must choreograph and present for a final grade. The final project for the third course, Choreography and Production, will then be presented in the annual Fall Dance Concert. The students are expected to choreograph a dance using their acquired knowledge of choreography as well as having certain requirements, such as a minimum of 4 dancers and with a time limit of 5-8 minutes long. Other than choreography, the students are responsible for costumes, lighting, sound, and the overall publicity of the concert thus learning the production side of a performance.
